Here is a really great website for the upcoming 2012 election. Even if you know nothing about politics or the candidates, it has so much information! Here’s the link:

“So, step by step, women are making their way into what has, tragically, been considered male territory.”
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee, and Tawakkol Karman are the recipients of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, for their efforts for women’s rights/safety in Liberia and Yemen. They have inspired many and want all women around the world to find their voice.

The above link is controversial date-rape ads by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Fortunately, they have been pulled. It seems to me that our generation has been labeled trouble-makers. All we do is have sex, do drugs, and drink. Right? Most likely one (if not both) of your parents smoked pot or experimented with drugs. And our generation is just a bunch of overly sexual creatures? Because the past generation believed in waiting until marriage, heterosexual relationships, protection (and the pill), and being monogamous. Wait, that sounds a little off to me.
Once again victims of rape are being blamed. “If she wasn’t dressed so skanky, I wouldn’t have raped her.” “If she wouldn’t dance like that, I wouldn’t have raped her.” And now, because females drink alcohol and get drugs slipped into their drinks, they are to blame! There is NO excuse for rape. I don’t care how naked, drunk, drugged-out, or passed out a woman is, there is no excuse to rape her. She didn’t want to do it, but she couldn’t say no. But you can so no to raping her.

I’m a 22-year-old college student and i’m part of the WE generation. I have gotten to a point in my life where I want my voice to be heard and to matter. Our parent’s generations (baby boomers) have silenced our voices and it is time for change. I am not a politician, expert, or another America-hating American. I do not have an outstanding position in society, nor do I believe I have answers to our Country’s most severe problems. But I can tell you what I am. I am a person who believes in human rights. I believe in woman’s rights, gay rights, ethnic/race rights, religious rights, and any other HUMAN right you can think of. I’ve realized the stigma that comes along with being a human’s rights activist, is something I will have to face for a very long time. But if I can’t stand up for these rights, who will? I believe every single person in this country, can make a difference. Some will make a difference in the world, in your country, in your state, in your city, in your family, in one person, or in yourself. Small change, is big change.
The link of this blog has a very significant meaning to me. “Independence Forever.” This is the most famous saying of my ancestor, John Adams (2nd president of the United States). I live by this saying every single day. I will never forget what those before me went through to give us the liberties we have today. But I will not ignore what liberties we must still fight for. We are not bound by the chains of our elders; we are not silenced by the voices of our government. WE are the future and only WE can change a country in need of restoration.
I created this blog because I felt that I needed to start letting my voice be heard. I am a strong believer in education, individuality, rights, life, and liberty. I believe in our country and in our government. I especially believe in the people. I am in the criminal justice field and I’m making it my mission to be one of the billions that make even a small change in our country, and hopefully the world!
